The head and neck is one of the most complicated areas in our body. Like all the other places of the body, neck has a central bony skeletal core (spine) upon which other structures are connected. There are many blood vessels, lymph nodes (glands) and nerves passing through the neck with the trachea (windpipe) and oesophagus (esophagus, gullet, food pipe). The major saliva producing glands lie in the neck and face, and important hormone producing glands such as the thyroid and parathyroid glands are placed lower in the neck.
